Parents,
This is today's second post. So be sure to read the one below this as well. I have just added some grades to Jupiter Grades. Students at this age are not used to seeing grades online. Much of their work in the past was not counted and report card grades were developmentally based. In fifth, most of what they do will be counted, and put into Jupiter Grades.
I have added a small writing grade. They were to write a short paragraph, attempting to avoid the "dead" verbs. They go a plus, check-plus, check, check-minus, or minus, for that grades. The total is 5 points. The Plus, being a 5. This is the very first writing grade, one of many. If your child received a 2 or 3, it will not be a major issue for your child's future grade. But, if the grade was a bit low due to a lack of effort, then try to remind your child how important it is to always put forth best work. I did warn the children that the paragraph would be graded.
Also, a spelling grade has been added for the first spelling packet, work 10 points. Very much effort based. If they did the entire packet, it looked good, and words were used correctly they got a 10. At the time I collected the packets, I noted that I was missing some and announced that to the class. I repeated this several times, and then let the students know that it would be put into Jupiter Grades this weekend, and the missing papers would receive a zero. The missing papers have not yet shown up. They can, at this point, be turned in for full credit.
Good luck, and please read the first post.
