Well the big week is finally here. We will be performing on Friday for the families at 9:00. The students are doing a great job. We will also have dress rehearsals for the students on Wednesday and Thursday. Busy days ahead.
The new trimester is fully under way. The new grade book is up and grades are just starting to get entered. I'm very focused this trimester in helping the students to turn in all work in a timely manner with the appropriate name. I am taking extra time when papers are being turned in to make sure I'm heard, and have students collect the work rather than having them, independently, turn it into the box. Then, that same day, I review all work turned in and make note of any missing papers and talk to those students. On a light week I receive more than 300 papers from 90 different students. On a busier week, it is easily more than 500. It is imperative they learn to be responsible for their work.
As for the grades, remember that as the new trimester starts, only one or two grades have been entered into the grade book. If your child is missing, or received a lower score on one assignment, no matter how small, it will have a huge impact on their current grade. This can make for a very nasty looking F on your child's grade book. The trimester just started, and we have a long way to go. Plenty of time to fix things up.
As a reminder - The late policy this trimester is: Full credit for up to seven days, after that the assignment can only receive 70 percent. Also, late work will have an impact on their effort grades. A paper is late when it is not turned in at the time called for (absences are excused). For instance, if I ask that all papers get turned in, and a child finds they did not do that and brings it to me later that day, it is late. If a child has two or less late papers they will get an O for effort. If they have between 2 and 5 late papers they get an S. Any more than five late papers and they will receive an N or effort on their report card.

The new AR season has started. This trimester the students are required to read 4 books. However, different from last trimester, the students will receive partial credit for each book they read. A child who reads and passes a test for one book gets 25 percent. Two would be 50 percent. Three would be 75 percent. And four, would be 100 percent.
Have a great week ever
