Welcome to conference week. Remember, all 3 - 6 grade students get out at 2:00 on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday is a minimum day, no school on Thursday, and a minimum day on Friday as well.
Friday will also be our first field trip. We will go to the Castaic Water Agency. I have never been, but I hear it is a great day. It's a short trip, 8:30 - 11:30. The students will be back before dismissal, so no need to worry about lunches.
Conferences are pretty short, 15 minutes. At the conferences I will review your child's beginning of the year assessments and discuss goals for your child. Please, take some time before the conference to write down any questions you may have, or goals that you would like your child to work on this year. Since the time allotted is brief, the more organized we are, the more we can cover. If we cannot get to all your questions, or you think of more later, just let me know and we'll arrange more time, or email, or phone.
"My Access" is up and running. Fourth grade parents, that is the website, paid for through a grant, that allows students to write and edit, online, and receive a rubric score. I have complete access to everything. They can submit their work as many times as necessary to get the score they want. It's fantastic and accessible from home.
The first prompt for all students (fourth and fifth) is a narrative prompt, "A Bus Ride to Anywhere". In the near future in writing, fifth grade will begin expository text and persuasive. Fourth can stay working on narrative texts a little while longer.
Fourth grade has a math test on Chapter 3 this Wednesday. Fifth graders have their Wordly Wise test this Wednesday as well.
Also, coming up for fifth graders is the fifth grade play. The auditions are this week. Make sure, if your child is interested in auditioning for a part that a signed permission slip has been signed by you and turned in. The performance is November 19th. Students with roles, speaking or singing, may have rehearsals during lunch and after school on Wednesdays.
That's it. I'll get the fourth grade spelling list up by tonight (Sunday). I do plan on a test on Friday.
Have a great week. I look forward to speaking with all of you.
