Parents,
Things continue to move quickly for Room 24. There is a lot going on this week as well. Enrichment classes start this week. Picture day is this Thursday, September 16th. Also, I will be out all day on Wednesday, attending a training on Physical Education. I look forward to it. Students, much to their dismay, are not allowed to use computers while I'm away.
Fourth graders took their test in Math, Chapter Two, last week. They were given 40 problems, 20 multiple choice, and 20 short answer. The test covered the cummutitive and associative properties and the addition and subtraction of large numbers. All the students can do this, but some made many small errors in computation and direction following. This coming Friday, September 17th, I will allow make up tests for anyone who wish.
If you or your child is not satisfied with his/her grade, review the test that I will send home on Monday, find the errors, and practice. I will give a similar test on Friday for the make up.
Fifth graders have a Math Chapter 2 Test this Friday. It will cover bar graphs, line plots and histograms, as well as median, mode and range, and integer grpahing. This stuff can be tricky especially when it comes to picking the right kind of chart for the data and deciding on a scale and interval. Their test will have both multiple choice and short answers as well.
In Grammar, fifths have peen working on prepositions and prepositional phrases and will begin looking at dependent and independent clauses. Fourths have been working with appositives and will practice combining sentences with appositives, adjectives, adverbs and prepositional phrases.
Fifth graders are beginning their third word list for Wordly Wise, and fourths will follow the spelling list, "Finding the Titanic" on Spelling city.
Have a great week everyone!
Mrs. McElroy
