There are a few new things coming up this week. Fifth graders will have their first Wordly Wise test on Friday. Fourth graders will have their Chapter 1 math test on Friday, as well, as their spelling test.
Important skills being tested on the Chapter 1 test for the fourth graders are: writing large numbers (to the millions) in standard form (1,203,455), expanded form (1,000,000 + 200,000 + 3,000 + 400 + 50 +5), and in word form (one million, two hundred three thousand, four hundred fifty five). They need to compare those numbers with the "greater than" and "less than" symbols, and order large numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least.
Thursday is a minimum day. Remember, the students get out at 12:20. All of them. It can be very crowded. Also, that night is the "Back to School Night". It starts at 6:00 in the MPR, and then goes to the classrooms at 6:30. There are two sessions. The first session, 6:30 - 7:00, is for the parents of fourth graders, and the second session, 7:05 - 7:35, is for the parents of fifth graders.
Heads up fifth grade parents for next week. On Tuesday, they will take their first science test, on chapter 4, and take the Chapter 1 math test. I will send home a study guide for the science. The math test will focus on prime factorization, the order of operations, exponents, and using variables in expressions.
Good luck to you all. I look forward to seeing you on Thursday.
